People we are AMERICANS!! Americans support our troops! They are out there for us. Remember, there is always a Price to be paid! I am a Army mom and believe me I feel that a contract is a contract!! If you bought something... you have a contract to pay payments. Once you fullfill your contract, you would NOT like to have to make additional payments. Well, simple as that!! I feel that this is a good cause. If they fullfill their contract then they should be entitled to their "exit Date". I am behind the RED< WHITE < BLUE!! SOLIDERS SHOULD BE SUPPORTED IN THIS MATTER! I am so thankful for all they do.

Lady, your son surely knew there would be a chance of this happening, did he not talk to anyone in the service, did he not read his contract. Thousands of soldiers a year are stop lossed. The military needs that option in order to stay mission ready. Much respect to your son, but this is ridiculous, you claim he has an IQ of 140, well damn, maybe he should have used that big ass brain to fully understand his contract. I joined in 2002 and knew then there was a chance I could get stop lossed, but hey it's the Army of the United States of America not the peace corps, everything can't work out perfect for everyone.

      Taken from About.com:

"I should mention here that STOP LOSS is not new. Political opponants of the President often refer to STOP LOSS as a "back-door draft," and act as if President Bush invented the policy.

Congress first gave STOP LOSS authority to the Department of Defense right after the draft ended. However, the military didn't use the authority until the 1990/1991 Gulf War, when Bush Senior imposed STOP LOSS on pretty much everyone in the military during the Gulf War. This STOP LOSS was later revised to include only those deployed, and individuals in certain critical job skills.

President Clinton imposed STOP LOSS at the beginning of the Bosnia deployment, and during the Kosovo Air Campaign. STOP LOSS was imposed for a brief period right after 9/11, and then again in 2002 and 2003.

The current STOP LOSS program only affects members of the active duty Army, the Army Reserves, and the Army National Guard, and only affects individuals who are either deployed or have been officially notified that they are scheduled for deployment. Such members are prevented from separating or retiring from the point of deployment notification, to (up to) 90 days following return from deployment."

You should have read the contract. Cowboy up and do your job...bottom line. Mom, your son is an adult (or thought he was) and is responsible for his actions of signing his contract. Let him fight his own battle.

        Dear Sir:

I am well aware of the history of stop loss.  You are incorrect in your facts about how the US Army and how stop loss is currently being used.  Your fourth paragraph is totally incorrect.  Yes, that's the way it should work but that is not the way its working.  I am not fighting this battle for my son. I am fighting it for all victims of the stop loss policy.

        Sincerely,

        Suzanne Miller

I haven't written in quite awhile, but feel a need to respond to Justin Mann's comment regarding the use of stop-loss. Suzanne is correct that it is not being used in the manner that was intended or explained to soldiers. My son was threatened with stop loss if he did not re-enlist after returning from his first deployment to Iraq. He did not want to re-enlist as his 4-year contract was going to be up in a few months and he wanted to return to college. What the Army did is a long story, but he was stop-lossed for many months and finally deployed again to Iraq. He is now in Baghdad for 15 months when he should have gotten out of the Army several months ago. The Army used deceitful and underhanded tactics to insure that he and many of his fellow soldiers, were not allowed to leave. And yes, before he ever signed up for the Army, he asked many questions and so did his father who is a Vietnam War Veteran. The recruiter lied to both of them over and over. And yes, in spite of all the lies and deceit on the part of the U.S. Army, my son did go back to Iraq and will soldier on. He has learned a very good lesson the hard way. And, thank you Suzanne, for continuing to fight for him and all the victims of this unfair, wrongfully used stop-loss policy.

Gunner you obviously don't have children. If you did you could understand why she is fighting for her son and every other son and daughter that is currently under stop loss. Soldiers can't speak up about this b/c of what their chain of command will do to them. Trust me I have seen what they will do first hand to people that speak out. He did his job, over and over again. What, b/c he signed a 3 year contract he should have to suffer for the next 20 years if the army decides to keep him in that long?

I saw Stop-Loss Thursday night with my wife and we liked it. There were only two other parties with us in the movie, a group of young guys and a group of young nannies (from Germany I think). So unfortunately I don’t think as many are seeing.

        Hi Tom,

Thanks for seeing the movie.  It is doing well so I think people are seeing it.  I know I am getting a lot of momentum on this website again and I can only attribute it to the movie.  Let's hope that is true anyway.  It was extremely well done.  Kudoes to Kimberly Pierce and to the cast.

        Sincerely,
        Suzanne Miller

        Dear Kellie,

Right now, the only branch that has implemented this policy (for lack of a better term) is the US Army.  However, I would suspect that the marines will be next if this is allowed to continue.  I say that because this war, while involving the Air Force and Navy to some degree, is mainly being fought in urban areas where the Army and Marines are.  I know that some Navy personnel do travel with the marines.  In my son's case, they simply changed his separtion date from August 8, 2007 to March 9, 2009 and they say they can do it.  He is still in.  Its absolutely unbelievable to me.

God bless your son and thank him for his service to our country.  We may not all agree with the war in Iraq but no one can say that our soldiers are not heroes.  They most certainly are.  This unfair, unconstitutional policy must end and Congress has to do it.  Since the movie has come out, interest in this subject has peaked, again, so my campaign against this policy now has some momentum.  Thank you for writing.  I hope your son stays safe.

        Sincerely,
        Suzanne Miller

            Hi Kellie,

All I can say is "you go girl".  Thank you for re-posting that petition.  Congress must hear us.  Senator Bill Nelson and Saxby Chambliss are certainly allies.  80,000 soldiers have been affected by stop-loss but no one knows how many of the additional 30,000 troops Bush sent to Iraq were stop lossed.  I suspect it was probably at least a third (or in the alternative, they were threatened with it, and thought they had no choice but to re-enlist).  That's the Army's tactic.  Let me know if you get any interest from Diane Sawyer or anyone else.  I have done a number of interviews and I would love the chance to speak out once again.  Again, thanks for our committment to our soldiers.  They deserve much better than what we have given them.

            Regards,
            Suzanne

                Hi Kellie,

Thanks again for the petition.  I appreciate the kind words but this is how God has led me to support our troops.  I am simply a messenger.  I am speaking with the National Press Club in DC on Monday along with the director of the movie.  You may also want to check out Barak Obama's website.  He is actually encouraging Americans to see the movie.  Thanks again for your committment to our troops.  They need it.  They are my inspiration.

                Warm Regards,
                Suzanne
